Rodger Halston - Renaissance Man - Riding the Wave of Success

You've undoubtedly seen the face and heard the voice. It's difficult not to recognize his rugged good looks and his sexy, deep timbre.
If you a regular viewer of the Fox Family Channel, you've already caught this former rodeo cowboy's unforgettable appearances in The Addams Family Reunion and Casper Meets Wendy. But, while the name of this talented, guitar-playing actor, screenwriter, singer, performer and songwriter may not be familiar at the moment, that should all be changing very soon.

Repeat it. Scream it out loud. Commit it to memory. Because you’ll be hearing a lot more about this modern-day renaissance man in the months to come.
“I have so many different interests that I’ve been pursuing for so long, it feels good to finally be stirring-up some attention,” the handsome Halston humbly says. “I’ve been really blessed. Some people have called me an ‘overnight success.’ I like that. But, let me tell you, it’s been a really long night.”
Halston was born into a family of performers, and they encouraged him to utilize his God-given talents from the time he was able to pick-up a guitar.
“My grandparents were very musical, and my dad was the lead singer for a gospel band, so, I traveled with them, played various instruments and sang, almost from the time I could walk,” the 32-year-old explains. It was almost like I was born right into it. So, I always knew that I wanted to perform in some facet of the entertainment industry.”
Halston would spent his formative years in Oregon, though, concentrating on athletics and competing in local rodeos.
“Growing up on ranch in Oregon, we were always around cowboys and that lifestyle,” he says. “So, of course, if something is popular in your neighborhood, you’re going to get involved.”
But, by the time he was attending school at the University Of Oregon, Halston could no longer deny his yearnings for a life in the entertainment business.
 His parents understood.
“My dad always told me that whatever I wanted to do with my life, I could do it,” he says. “He told me to keep the faith, not to give up. Not once did he question my dreams and aspirations. So, I told him that if I was going to become a respected performer, I’d have to move to Los Angeles. He said OK. Both my parents have always been supportive. I was doing a lot of local commercials in Eugene, and an agent from that area came up to me and told me there that he was taking some people down to L.A., to try out for this competition. So, I packed-up everything I had and left Oregon with $100 in my pocket.
“The competition ended-up being a big sham, although, I ended-up winning all kinds of awards. I slept in a tent in a friends backyard for the first five months,” he laughs. “But while I was there, I met-up with a producer and an agent who really believed in me. From there, things started to take-off. I started doing screen tests for commercials, acting and music, and started making some money.”
Over the next nine years Halston would become a favorite with casting agents all over the Southern California area. He would find himself acting in a number of different types of film, soaps and TV projects, including his recent roles in specials for the Fox Family Channel.
“I’m really thrilled to be doing family-oriented shows,” the happily married Halston says. “There is nothing more dear to my heart than children. I’ve done a lot of work with Planet Hope, an organization for homeless mothers and their children. I’ve really gotten involved with it. Being around kids that are born with so much of the world against them, and being able to help them, has been so rewarding. Some of the best times of my life have been watching the changes some of those kids have experienced.”
But, acting and volunteering for Planet Hope only takes-up a small part of his life. Halston has never laid down his guitar for long. In fact, he is currently working on a project with ex-Fleetwood Mac guitarist Billy Burnette.
“The two of us are collaborating on a couple of things, and, we are shopping around a demo,” he explains. “And there seems to be some interest.
“But, I’ve really just been riding the wave,” he continues. “I have sort of a surfer attitude - I’ve been out there paddling away and have caught certain waves as they have come in, whether they have been on TV or in films. With my musical talent, I have been asked, over and over, why am I not doing more with it. This may be the time where that part of the wave is kind of taking hold of me. We’ll just have to see where that goes. I’m just riding the wave and seeing where it takes me.”
Knowing Rodger Halston, it’ll take him to a place where he’ll soon be swimming with the big fish.

...On Playing Sports
“When I was a little boy, I dreamed about playing football for the Dallas Cowboys. But, at some point in time, I realized there were other places that I needed to go. Plus, it was tough on the body. The human body is very fragile, and I wanted to be able to walk when I’m 45-years old.”

...On Charity Work
“I believe that those of us who are in the spotlight and can have an effect on charitable organizations, should do all we can. We are so blessed and so fortunate. I just wish I had more time to commit to them.”
