Rodger has been performing since the age of four when he sang before a packed house of two thousand. Rodger Sr. and his wife Sue "Preacher/Country Gospel Recording Artists" knew they had something special in their first son when he bowled over the judges at his first official talent show with a startling piano rendition of the classic "Love Story". By junior high, in addition to excelling in sports, Rodger began writing music and lyrics, and won Outstanding Performer for his musical and theatrical talents.

In high school Rodger competed in Rodeo events and trained horses. He received such honors as Student Body President and Homecoming King.
